Our Visit to the Big Apple
|
Sarah and I travelled to Staten Island to attend the Bar Mitzvah of my
cousin Todd Stein. During our stay, we took the opportunity to go into
Manhattan to check out a few of the sights. This was Sarah's first visit
to New York and my first time in may years.

New York Fashion District
Of course, New York is no longer the international hub of clothing manufacturing that it once was and many of the old factory buildings are now restaurants and boutiques.

Memorial to Garment Workers This memorial to Garment Workers has particular meaning for me because my Baba and Zaide both worked at this trade for most of their lives. While this was never the glamorous side of fashion, it allowed them to raise my mother and aunt Bella and make a new life in Canada. |

The Chrysler Building
I find this to be one of the most impressive architectural designs in New York. Sadly, it's unlikely that anything of this calibre would be built today. |
Even in New York... Even in New York where tall buildings are the norm, the Chrysler building still commands attention wherever it is visible.

Time Square The cliché photo of Times Square is de rigueur on any visit to the big apple.

Convenience Store To a simple Canadian from the backwoods of Toronto, this type of (presumably commonplace) establishment will always seem shocking. Sadly, it is not unique. |

The Wall Street Bull - Side B
Most investors have seen far more of this side of the market than necessary of late. |
The Wall Street Bull Like the market it represents, the Bull is impressive, attention grabbing, and produces nothing of value. |
