The Marriage of Heather and Ron

On the sunny summer day of August 21, 1994, Heather Walters and Ron Vida were married in a charming outdoor service held at historic McLean House of the Sunnybrook Estates in Toronto.

I have known Ron since we started high school in 1981 and Heather since shortly after she and Ron met in 1989. They had been together for so long, and complemented each other so well, that seeing them take their personalised wedding vows was the most natural thing in the world.

The secular service was performed on the grounds of McLean House where Ron and Heather invoked traditional elements of both their Jewish and Christian backgrounds without overshadowing the unique and personal nature of the ceremony. Their personal covenant was sealed as they pledged their commitments to each other through their own individual vows.

As is the case with only the best weddings, the atmosphere at this gathering was relaxed and joyous; a true celebration of the formal joining of two lives that were clearly meant to be lived together in harmony.

Warm enough to bake a cake....and the ornaments look so real! But we haven't had coffee and cake yet!
Ron and Heather

It was a beautiful summer day (if a little warm for those in dark suits) to get married on the lawn in front of McLean House.
What is not obvious in this picture is that a bee would not leave me alone for most of the ceremony. This photo captures a moment of peace when I was not adopting a swatting stance.

Happiness

Heather seems quite happy to have successfully completed the formal portion of the party.
Ron's expression can only be attributed to the rented underwear.

The Wedding Party

Seen here from left to right: Anne Chang, Katharine Caza, EB Brownlie, Heather, Ron, JB, Kristin Ruppert, and Paul Ackerley.
The peaceful garden and stately manor provide a serene and solemn setting that even the presence of the author cannot completely obliterate.

The Piano Man

Paul Ackerley entertains the party with his musical talents
It certainly helps liven a party to have an accomplished pianist as one of the honoured guests.

Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking...
JB Speaks

For some reason, they let me speak to the guests. Against all odds, a microphone was even provided.
Even though I held the floor for nearly ten minutes, both the bride and the groom (and many of the guests) continue to speak to me to this day.
